Whether we are tired from a week at work, need a holiday after a holiday or we just feel flat. There are many proven psychological strategies you can employ to give you that much needed pick up. Which one will you choose?
Take a time out in nature
Research has found that just 15 minutes of sitting outside in nature and focusing on taking it in, is enough to boost your positive emotions! If you’re not into sitting, perhaps you could take a 15-minute walk on the beach or in a park, or choose to eat your lunch outside under the trees.
Think of a favourite memory from the past
Recently published research suggests that thinking about a positive memory from the past not only makes us nostalgic, it also makes us more hopeful and positive about the future! The more we remember the good things which have already happened to us, the more likely we are to believe they will continue to happen to us!
Best possible self
Imagining yourself in the future thriving and living a full and happy life is actually a really good way to boost optimism and positive emotions! Spend 5 minutes imagining yourself in one year’s time, imagine that you’ve reached your full potential and are living as your best possible self.
Set a new goal
Once you’ve worked out what you look like at your best, break it down into small goals.
When we achieve a goal our brain releases feel good chemicals, so we feel more positive.
Set a new goal that you can start working on this week that will get you closer to your ideal self!
